PAPER ICICLE SHELVES

This DIY Paper Icicle Installation is definitely a project that will take a little more time and expertise, but the end result is stunning and eye catching. Attach the icicles to the bottom of a shelf or mantel, cluster them in the corner of a room, or have them hanging over a dessert table at a party. A mini version would look amazing around the rim of a cake stand. I think they look amazing for before or after Christmas when paired with these paper Amsterdam houses. Keep reading for the tutorial!

Materials:
-White Paper (the longer your paper, the longer the icicles)
-Pencil
-Glue
-Scissors
-Tape
-yardstick or ruler

Step 1. Fold the paper in half lengthwise.
Step 2. Draw a diagonal line across the page with the yardstick and cut along the line.
Step 3. Fold the cut edges over about 1/2 an inch and glue along the top of the folded edge.
Step 4. Separate the two layers and place the glued edge under the top layer, pressing down to secure. Then run a glue stick on the remaining fold, then turn that backwards and glue the paper behind it.
Step 5. Open and fold, connecting the folded seams together.
Step 6. Cut off the wide end to make an even line.
Step 7. Pop up to make a square opening. Trim down each corner about 1/2 an inch, and fold them back.
Step 8. For a more natural look, crumple up the icicle. You could also leave the crisp edges for a geometric feel.
Step 9. Straighten the icicle out again by blowing in the icicle or sticking a pencil inside. To attach, use tape on the flaps to secure the icicle to the ceiling.

After you have several icicles of varying lengths made, print off this 2D icicle template on white paper and cut it out. You could also use a silhouette machine.

To assemble the entire installation fold the flat end of the 2D icicles, place tape on the fold, then attach around the front of the display. Then tape on the 3D icicles, making sure to spread around the different lengths for a balanced look.
