I am obsessed with all things macaron, and have been for several years. I love to eat them, bake them, and try them at different shops around the world. Every time I go on vacation to a place with a world famous macaroon store I order the same four flavors and compare them with each other. Keep reading to read about the best flavors and macaron bakeries in Paris, London, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
- Lemon: Good tart lemon flavor and buttery filling. The best macaron we tried from Pierre Hermé
- Pistachio: A little bit sweet, but good flavor.
- Chocolate: Good rich flavor, and nice texture.
- Vanilla: Great vanilla flavor.
- Overall: The shells were a bit more firm than Laudereé but the macarons had a butterier filling. The flavors were all very good and strong. Pierre Hermé overall has the best macarons I've ever tried.
Ladurée - London, April 2018
- Lemon: The lemon flavor was very tart, but tasted a bit like perfume.
- Vanilla: This macaron had a perfect vanilla flavor. Best macaron we tried from Ladurée.
- Pistachio: Good nutty pistachio flavor, a little sweet.
- Salted Caramel: Not that salty or chocolaty.
- Overall: the macarons were very soft and airy, not all the flavors were the best, but pistachio and vanilla were very good. The filling would have been better a little butterier.
Bouchon Bakery - Las Vegas April 2019
- Vanilla: Good vanilla flavor, thick creamy filling, best from Bouchon.
- Pistachio: Strong nutty flavor in the shell, but the filling didn't seem to add much flavor.
- Chocolate: Almost playdough like filling, otherwise good flavor.
- Overall: The shells were a good texture, but the fillings were a little weird. The chocolate one seemed almost gelatin like, and was too thick. The other fillings were a little too creamy with not enough butter.
Bottegga Louie - Los Angeles, May 2019
- Vanilla: The flavor was alright but not that strong, filling wasn't buttery. The best macaron we tried from Bottegga Louie
- Pistachio: Very green and sweet, kinda artificial flavor, gelatin like filling.
- Lemon: Light airy cream filling instead of buttery, not sour and a little too sweet.
- Salted Caramel: Filling has strong caramel flavor, not strong salt or chocolate.
- Overall: The flavors weren't as strong as I would like them to be, and the fillings weren't buttery. The croissants, beignet, and eclairs from Bottegga Louie were very good, but I wouldn't get the macarons again.
