MINI HEDGEHOG PINATA

I have been slightly obsessed with hedgehogs for a couple of years now, so why not make a hedgehog into a pinata!?! When filled with treats this mini pinata is a perfect fall party favor or table decoration.

Supplies
  • Paper-Mache (newspaper, water, and flour)
  • Small Balloon
  • Tissue paper in light and dark brown
  • Glue, tape, exacto knife, and scissors
  • Tiny black pom pom
  • Candy and confetti to fill the pinata

Step 1. Blow a tiny bit of air into a balloon. The end opposite the opening should have a bit of a point, forming the hedgehogs nose.

Step 2. Paper-Mache around the balloon the entire balloon, and let the whole thing dry. You may want to carefully hit the pinata on the counter several times to flatten the bottom and ensure the hedgehog doesn't roll around.
Step 3. Cut a little door in the bottom of the hedgehog with an exacto knife, and pull the balloon out through it.
Step 4. Fill the hedgehog with a couple pieces of candy, and lots of confetti. Then tape the door closed.

Step 5. Cut light and dark brown tissue paper into thin strips, and add fringe. Glue the light brown tissue paper fringe onto the hedgehogs face, and the dark brown to the body.

Step 6. Hot glue a tiny black pom pom onto the end of the nose.

Paper-Mache Tips

  • Make the paper-mache in a paper bowl, or line a bowl with tin foil for easy clean up
  • Your water and flour mixture should be the consistency of pancake batter
  • lay a sheet of plastic wrap down to protect your work surface
  • Dip the newspaper into the mixture, and use your second and third finger to slide off any excess mixture.
  • Apply 3-4 layers of paper-mache, allowing the pinata to dry in between layers
