COLORED PENCIL TUTORIAL | FALL PUMPKIN

I've been excited to post this colored pencil tutorial for a while, and now that we're into fall I finally can! There's nothing that screams fall and Halloween more than mini pumpkins, like the ones this drawing in inspired by. This pumpkin colored pencil drawing looks complex and difficult, but when broken into steps everyone can achieve a unique, fun colored pencil pumpkin! The key with colored pencils is to layer the colors until you get the desired result. Keep scrolling for the tutorial!

Step 1. Outline the shape of a pumpkin by drawing a circle, a pinwheel inside the circle, and then a small circle in the middle. Add details like the rounded edges and stem once you are happy with the overall shape. Then draw over the pencil lines with a dark brown colored pencil.

Step 2. Soften the shadow lines with the same dark brown pencil, fading the color out toward the middle of the pumpkin section.

Step 3. Fill in the entire pumpkin with the lightest shade of orange. Then blend a darker shade of orange in with the brown and pale orange.
Step 4. Use white to add the highlight tones, blending it into the lighter orange.

Step 5. Use various shades of brown to fill in the stem.

Step 6. Using a toothpick and white craft paint add small highlights on the stem and pumpkin. This is my favorite step because it adds a lot of depth and texture to the art work. Finally add a shadow around the outside of the pumpkin with the dark brown.

Tips:
Continue adding layers of color until you're happy with the end result.
Always add less paint for the highlight than you think you need. It's easy to overdo it.
Prismacolors are my favorite colored pencil because they are really easy to blend.
